"...This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islām as religion..."
- Surah Al-Ma'idah 5:3
Islam is the total submission to the Will of Allah SWT. This includes the heart, mind, body, and soul. The key to total submission is to establish spiritual connection as exemplified by Muhammad SAW. Every human is bestowed a life giving spirit that is a direct link to Allah SWT yet, most muslims superficially focus on perfecting their ritual practices without spiritual connection.
Mainstream Aqeedah and understanding of Tawhid have failed to include the importance of Al-Ruh and this vital life-force linked to Allah SWT.
The Ruh is the Divine blown breath endowed by Allah SWT to every human being.
"Then He fashioned them and breathed into them His spirit. And made for you hearing, sight, and intellect. What little thanks you give."
- Surah As-Sajdah 32:9
It is the spark that triggers life in an otherwise lifeless lump of flesh. It is through which Allah SWT describes the natural upright disposition of a human being (Fitrah):
And when your Lord took from the children of Adam - from their loins - their descendants and made them testify of themselves, "Am I not your Lord?" They said, "Yes, we have testified." - lest you should say on the Day of Resurrection, "Indeed, we were of this unaware."
— Surah Al-A'raf (7:172)
So direct your face toward the religion, the upright nature of Allah upon which He created [all] people. No change should there be in the creation of Allāh. That is the correct religion, but most of the people do not know.
— Surah Ar-Rum (30:30)
Mainstream understanding of Tawhid and the declaration of faith includes evidence of Fitrah, evidence of Reason, and Tangible/Visible evidence however, neglects to highlight the evidence of a human being's spiritual connection to Allah SWT through Al-Ruh which is by it's nature essential to a person's existence.
Understanding the evidence of spiritual connection requires understanding of Allah SWT as He describes Himself:
"the Light of the Heavens and Earth..."
-Surah An-Nur (24:35)
While the physical eyes cannot see the Light of Allah SWT, the Ruh originates from His Light. Hence, spiritual connection means to witness the Light of Allah SWT through your Ruh.
This connection is the difference between a verbal declaration of faith and spiritual testimony of faith and the start of the journey to implement Sifaat Muhammad (SA).
